Maya Deren - Creating Movies With A New Dimension

Have you ever wonder if you can tie two movie scenes with each other so accurately that it looks like the character steps all the way to another dimension? Sounds kind of unrealistic right? However, according to May Deren, that is absolutely not the case, in A study in Choreography for Camera, she took a shot where the dancer lower his foot, then she cut the scene to another scene where she lower her foot on an apartment floor! It's just like she ties the  two scenes as if she shot the two scenes at the same time. Through that, we can see that through imagination and a right shooting techniques, you can manipulate the movies as you like. However, you always have to keep in mind that whatever the technique, it must serve the form in a whole. Rather than showing off skills to impress other film makers, try to stay appropriate with the theme and to the logic of the development.
