Metaphors of Visoion

Vision is the greatest element that we humans use. The only sense that comes close is hearing and that wouldn't descried what the sounds are coming from. Vision is everything to us especially to us film majors. Tricking the eye or mystifying it is thee key to how films work. The image of beauty shown at different speeds or contrasts changes the very meaning of the image we are seeing. It is the identity of life, sex, God and death. I understand what that means due to our eyesight. We be able to fully comprehend that without the eyes we bare.

Bordwell and thompson

Bordwell tells us or relates film to other narratives like the bible and other books that we read saying how we can relate to him

creating movies with a new dimension

this article talks about how we can give a scene or action of film a different meaning or outcome, as if we change the dimension to go from the sad to the happiness or even change something good to bad.

metaphors of vision

After I read metaphors on vision I understand that we can see more that what our eyes let us using perspective taking the vision to the next step giving the imagination a new mean.

Maya Deren - Creating Movies With A New Dimension

Have you ever wonder if you can tie two movie scenes with each other so accurately that it looks like the character steps all the way to another dimension? Sounds kind of unrealistic right? However, according to May Deren, that is absolutely not the case, in A study in Choreography for Camera, she took a shot where the dancer lower his foot, then she cut the scene to another scene where she lower her foot on an apartment floor! It's just like she ties the  two scenes as if she shot the two scenes at the same time. Through that, we can see that through imagination and a right shooting techniques, you can manipulate the movies as you like. However, you always have to keep in mind that whatever the technique, it must serve the form in a whole. Rather than showing off skills to impress other film makers, try to stay appropriate with the theme and to the logic of the development.

Methods of Montage- Rhythmatic

Through the reading "Methods of Montage", I finally understand how much influences the rhythms of the character can have on a movie. It's like the author said about the film sequence "Odessa steps" and "The Untouchable"- Both started out with long shots and different kind of rhythms, which give us a sense of a daily life "Odysse steps". But as the scene gets more intense, the same goes for the rhythms. As seen in "The Untouchable", the scene where the shooting begins and the baby stroll begins to fall, the pace just keep getting faster that makes our heart beat gradually match with it and we starting to feel the same intensive feelings as the character. This is a really bizarre thing to think of especially when you're in the film making major because when people say "Film should be able to addresses the audiences in different ways", this is one of the most important technique for that aspect!

Methods Of Montage

After reading this article, I felt very informed. Overall, it is  very helpful to know, and understand these different methods of montage. The article states four or five different types to work from. For example, those include metric, rhythm, tonal, etc. The article then goes on to explain some of the meaning behind these methods. Which I had no clue about in the slightest. These methods definitely made me think of how some or many music videos are made. In today's society, it's all about the visuals as much as it is the audio. I can see many of these methods of montage in today's music videos. The first that comes to mind, is Cartoons and cereal by Kendrick Lamar.

Kino-Eye

After reading this article about The Kino Eye view, it made me realize just how much it has evolved from the time it was first created. Dziga Vertov started this in the early 1920's i believe. We are in 2017 today, and the use of the camera has changed drastically. Including the ways and methods we use to get quality camera shots. Like he stated in the article, humans can't improve the views of their eyes, but we can continue to constantly improve the ways  a camera might view things. As I was reading the article, it made me think of a perfect example of modern day Kino Eye shots. For example, there is a movie called Hardcore Henry. The film is shot entirely in Kino view. It lets the viewers see in third person, sort of like a video game but real life. There is multiple fight scenes in this film, but my favorite example of this shot is the apartment fight and chase scene. After taking a look at this film, and many others like it makes me really appropriate the use of the Ki...

Methods of Montages

I never knew that there were methods of montages, and all of them are quite interesting. It goes in debt where it sounds like its talking about a music sheet rather than something with film, like using the terms tone, or rhythm. However we can tell that montages are like music sheets because they follow a particular set of process and time. I understand how music works so it was pretty easy to put that into a film montage. Montages will require the transitions of scenes or how much is being shown, just like music transitions of how fast or how slow tempo is, or how loud or quiet a certain measure should be.

Esenstein Montage

The topic is montages which is a form of media that involves cutting shots in such a way that they aren't in a sequence but they appear to make sense with each scene. I'm trying to say that the narrative is brought together through the use of different images. There are a total of five different types montages listed in this article. Metric montage is a video that is sped up or cut to make it look sped up. Tonal montage tends to involve sound or music, to capture the beat of song basically. Rhythmic montage does not have a consistent narrative but it does follow the beat of the transition. Overtonal montage separates itself from tonal by being physiological rather than colorful. An intellectual montage speaks to a person on an intellectual level rather than an emotional level like the last four.
